Check out your Admin Dashboard, which can by found by clicking "Admin" on the bottom toolbar -- it has links to all your new tools. Please let me know if you have any questions, and good luck with your new (old) wikia!
Hi Chris, congratulations on getting your wiki adoption request through! I do admin and caretaking on the K-ON wiki, and I've been meaning to help out on the Kinmosa wiki for a long time (except the previous admin didn't provide much support infrastructure). You've done a lot of work on the kinmosa wiki so far, but is there anything in particular you think needs attention?
My particular strength is in writing summaries, but you've covered all of those so far. I'm also comfortable working with infoboxes and some light bits of wikia coding, if you think those are needed.
Well, if you find something for me to do, please let me know.
Thanks x3 I adore K-On so that's even cooler. I've actually not done work on here for a week or so myself, but I've been trying to determine what to do with my new admin-ness, as well as work on the next series by the makers of Kinmosa, it's called "Is the order a rabbit?" - that place needs WAY more work, but I've just been doing my usual summaries and what-not XD
In terms of stuff... I'd say things like screenshots, anything merchandise related, I also want to get a Season 2 navigation; but I don't know how to make those.
I'm not particularly good when it comes to screenshots, and I'm not in the loop enough to stay up to date with merch. But over the next couple of days I can have a look into the navigation stuff.
And I'm also really excited for season 2 of Gochiusa, so if you're willing to also adopting that wiki, I'd love to help out now and then, when the time comes.
Perhaps the best way you can use your admin abilities right now is to clean up the front page of the wiki. Stuff like the 'featured image' and 'featured video' haven't been changed in more than a year I think. But I'd say the poll is the priority, since it's something small, easy, and accessible to most people. I would recommend replacing the current poll with something simple like asking about favourite characters out of the main 5 girls.
I'm more of a caretaker and spend a maximum of 30 minutes each day on maintaining wikis, so it might look like I work slowly. But I'll hang around and try to find the places that need to be improved. Perhaps you could make a new page that lists various jobs that would be appreciated and link it up on the top navigation under the 'Community' tab. (And I think you should also list yourself under the 'Community > Administrators' subheading).
That's fine XD and I plan to adopt that one as well at some point, but I haven't nearly done as much as I have here, so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even consider me yet.
I like those ideas, I really should have realized it's probably outdated by now, considering the second season ended and I don't even recall it being mentioned to begin with there. Oh those, other things are great ideas too, those I would have never thought about XD considering I never did on other wiki I admin...
Anyway, thank you for the suggestions x3 I'll have to get to that stuff in a little bit.
Um, I'm having a problem now DX when I made an attempt to edit the front page, I see all the little puzzle pieces (templates), but no sign of an edit button to change things on them. I noticed things on the wikia at the moment are a teensy-bit strange, so it may just be the timing...
but, if it isn't do you have any ideas? I don't know how to make templates or anything fancy like that, and there doesn't seem to be anyway of modifying them, even in source mode... Maybe because I'm not the exact founder I can't adjust it? I checked the protection, just to see but that didn't do anything either...
I may just need to delete everything and ask someone else to put in the exact things, but more up to date DX
I replied to your last message, but for some reason, it's not showing up on that thread, so I'll make this thread to copy-paste my reply and keep all of our front page work in a single thread for now.
"Hmmm. Is your problem with editing the templates? At the very least, I figured out how to access the source code for the templates. On the home page, open the source editor. On the right sidebar, under the 'Templates' tab, there's a link that says 'Show list of used templates'. From there, you should be able to access the souce to each of the templates.
I can't edit them of course, but if you managed to get the template code and you can't edit it, then I'm not sure what to do. Let me know how you go, and if that doesn't work, we can probably try to build the front page from scratch."
That was the last message I posted that's somehow gotten lost. Since then, I checked back on the front page, and all of the templates seem to have disappeared. They still show up in the source code though. And the source code for each template is still normal, so I don't know why the front page is empty. If you're going to try anything new, let me know and I'll see what I can do on my end as well.
Okay, i did the first thing you suggested and I was able to edit them that way. But when I was looking at it, it seemed to like... ruin the page a little bit... I also wasn't sure what to change the video to so I left it alone, and since I was a bit worried I'd ruin other things, I didn't touch them.
I had a look at the code, and although I was expecting the individual templates to be edited, what you've done works. I mean replacing the template as its own module and building that image box from scratch.
If the other templates and boxes are causing problems, I think it would be a good idea to think about what you find most important about the front page. Then, remove the content you don't think works, and add any content you think would be needed.
My personal changes would be to make a new poll and perhaps remove the twitter module, and the featured video.
Oh, well I don't see why not XD but... I'm not sure if I understand how to do it - so it may take me a bit to figure it out (or ask someone else to do it for me...). I didn't add the other ones/make the template they are in, so...
Since the Wiki's been hit a lot recently by anon vandalism, would it be possible for me to become an admin so I can deal with them when it happens instead of having to rely on VSTF all of the time. Thanks for your time.
I'll have to admit that I've never watched the series although I do (in my opinion) have good enough knowledge to keep contributing here with all of the general cleanup that needs to be done ( and if I can in the future I'd like to watch it somewhere). Also if it's not too much trouble could you please post your opinion on the blog I created concerning the future (or lack there of) of badges on the wiki. :)
Having said that I'm not sure we really need to disable them yet since so far there hasn't been massive abuse of the badge system so after thinking about it again I would like to maintain the status quo (leaving them enabled) for now.
